Spirit is great, soul is small.
The great serves the small—always has been so.
When the soul claims greatness, usurping spirit’s place,
then inspiration vanishes without a trace.
Without spirit but with soul—that is beast.
With spirit but without soul—that is immortal.
With spirit and soul—that is human.
Among all beings, humans hold their place.
Among humans, the sage holds the highest space.
