Are you a good judge of character?
Court Judges determine a case on trial in accordance with the law, either statutory law or common law. Determining a person’s character is also based on a set of criteria or virtues. A person who judges the character of others should judge his/her own first using the set of publicly acceptable standards.
I judge the character of mine and of others in accordance with the law of God and the model that was laid down by Jesus for us. The Son of God, who by being made in human likeness humbled himself as a servant. Therefore, I ask myself 👇🏻
Am I meek?
Am I honest?
Am I upright?
Am I faithful?
Am I loyal?
Am I trustworthy?
Am I fair?
Am I judgemental?
Am I merciful?
Am I kind?
Am I generous?
Am I law-abiding?
If I fail the test of any one of these criteria, I can’t judge others who are not.
By discharging official duties, judges, law enforcement officers, teachers etc often have to judge the character of a subject person. The Bible tells us that the ultimate judge is the Righteous Judge, who is Lord of lords and King of kings, Christ Jesus, whom we all have to face His judgement one day.

Philippians 2:5-11
“In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross! Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”
Revelation 20:11-15
“Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. The earth and the heavens fled from his presence, and there was no place for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Another book was opened, which is the book of life. The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books…Anyone whose name was not found written in the book of life was thrown into the lake of fire.”
