Prayer

O God who loves us!

Beginning with Noah, You made a covenant with humanity, and through Abraham’s faith You established the covenant of blessing his descendants.  Your covenant is everlasting, yet how many have kept Your covenant?  And how many are the remnant of Israel under Your covenant?  O God, when You remain silent in sorrow, how many understand Your grief?  Later, You personally came to earth and established a covenant through the blood of Jesus Christ.  Even more lamentable is how few are the remnant under Christ’s covenant?  Human rebellion, arrogance, pride, and insolence — how long will they persist?  Our repeated sinning, where our mouths speak one thing while our hearts harbour another, often reigns supreme, leading us astray from God’s way.  O God, we pray that You open the eyes of our souls to see our dirty selves clearly, to abhor sin and wickedness, to grieve spiritually, to purify our desires, and to submit to You completely.  May we receive Your mercy, be guided on the path, and no longer stumble nor even falter.  May we truly repent because of God’s grace and lovingkindness, and receive Christ as the Lord of each of our lives. Help us to act in the name of Christ, to love with the love of God, so that others may see the kingdom of God has come.  That is God’s will is being done on earth as it is in heaven.  We lift our eyes to God, rely on the Lord, be transformed, and as new creations bear witness that Jesus Christ is the light that gives life.   May You graciously preserve us and accept our prayer, in the name of Jesus Christ. Amen!
