Daily Prompt

What are your thoughts on the concept of living a very long life?

God created man immortal, but disobedience turned the immortal into the mortal.

The oldest man on earth, Methuselah, lived for 969  years, having 19 years more than the first created man Adam.  Methuselah died in the year of but prior to the Flood, where the ark of Noah saved his family of eight and other creatures in pairs.  Thereafter, life expectancy is gradually shortened until the time of Moses where its boundaries were set—seventy in general and eighty for the stronger (Psalm 90:10).

Throughout the Bible, I read time links to life expectancy, and life expectancy links to purposes of God set on individual lives (e.g. Elijah taken up to heaven by a chariot of fire and horses of fire upon the completion of his missions; 2 Kings 2:11).  The abrupt cessation of life on earth could be related to God’s judgement (e.g. Belshazzar, the last king of Babylon, was slain on the very night of his contempt of God; Daniel 5:22-30), or one’s own faults or other’s.

A long and healthy life is a common desire for the worldly people; however seldom does this desire connect to a purpose.

A coin has its two sides.  The love slogan “Don’t worry about forever, just cherish what you had.” also has its two sides.  It has comforted many short-lived but a whirlwind romance.  It has also tempted people into one-night-stand indulgences.

Spiritual visions guide purposeful lives, long or short, all within the Purpose of God. Time and life expectancy intertwines with the purpose.  When God’s purpose fulfils, all can truly rest in peace.

Adam and Eve were created to be fruitful and increase in number, filling the earth and subduing it (Genesis 1:28).  Abraham was chosen for his trust in God to become a great nation and the ancestor of king—the ancestral line of Jesus (Genesis 12:1-2; 17:3-6).  The twelve disciples were chosen to spread the good news (the gospel) and there are many more to name.  Of all the chosen ones, when their purposes on earth fulfil, and when their lives end on earth, they can move on to eternity.

The most wise man Solomon, king of Israel, says “A good name is better than fine perfume, and the day of death better than the day of birth” (Ecclesiastes 7:1).

Blessed are those who see what God sees in them and who follow His precepts.  Be life long or short, I care more about printing my name in the Book of Life”.

“Grace beyond Fantasy” ~ ✨

Life flies with time decade by decade

Desire for fame is desire for flames

Ageing eyes are friends of nature

Ageing without ageing eyes is the friend of Almighty grace

Ageing bodies are for ageing years

Renewed hearts are for renewed souls

Death follows body from the day of birth

Faith removes death — the promise of the Truth

Gracious the Word graciously travels with time

One’s name on the Book of Life is the desire for all to eye

“A person’s days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed.”

Revelation 3:5

“The one who is victorious will, like them, be dressed in white. I will never blot out the name of that person from the book of life, but will acknowledge that name before my Father and his angels.”
