Something on your “to-do list” that never gets done.

Doing the spring cleaning on the 28th of the last lunar month is on every Chinese household ‘to-do’ list (and the next one to come is in two weeks). This is the metaphor for cleaning away the dirt (i.e. all bad things) in the past year before entering into the new year.  For some people, however, this to-do work never gets done yearly, not to mention about doing it monthly or weekly.

I keep my apartment constantly clean and tidy, for I enjoy the comfort of a clean place.  It is not difficult to keep any one house/apartment clean, but it is difficult to keep clean in the hearts and minds of people. I can keep my apartment clean without the assistance of others, but I cannot keep my spirit, my soul and my body clean without the help of the Holy Spirit.  To clean away the dirt of a house/apartment is scheduled on a particular day, but to clean away the inner dirt is a longtime work, not yearly, monthly or weekly, but round-the-clock daily.

God created first man and woman spotless, but they made themselves dirty.  Since then, spotless persons have been non-existent (except the two persons—Noah and Job described as blameless in the Bible) until the arrival of the Saviour Jesus Christ (John 3:16).

Men and women are born again spotless through justification by faith in Jesus Christ.  God creates us (the born again) in Christ to do good work.  Those who believe in Jesus are cleaned, and they can be kept clean by the Holy Spirit.

Blessed are those who respond to the guidance and assistance of the Holy Spirit to keep in purity.  Though I have nothing on my to-do list that never gets done, I have one thing on my to-do list yet to get completed, that is ending the journey of my life on earth in a spotless and blameless state before God.
