What’s a secret skill or ability you have or wish you had?
When I looked at today’s daily prompt question, instead of telling you what I am good at and how I make myself good at certain things, my mind brought me to a different horizon in addressing the question.
Everyone has a secret, if not more. If it is called a secret, you will not show; or if it is a hidden fact, you will not tell. Where skills and abilities are termed as such, without expressed performance, they cannot be so termed, and therefore they are not secrets, for they are openly revealed.
Secrets are something you do not want to show to or share with anyone but yourself. Perhaps, I rephrase the question as ‘What is your skill or ability to hide your secrets?’ and share some of my thoughts here.
Every person has a skill or ability to hide a secret, but not all have the conviction to hold it to their grave. The play of the personality game may win with qualities such as loyalty, faithfulness and reliability, and yet may lose on righteousness and/or blind love. Where this level of unwavering commitment may not be guaranteed by the play of a personal conviction, the law comes into playing the game. Therefore, for important matters like national security, one’s duty to keep the confidential information at bay is governed by the law (e.g. the Official Secret Act in England).
Then, what is the ‘secret’ to holding a secret? Where does loyalty or faithfulness come from? I say that it comes from the innate conscience (the natural law), which is an integral part of human nature created by God to differentiate between good and evil, directing him towards what is righteous (Genesis 1:27; Romans 2:15). Sadly though, the human’s conscience is tarnished or seared by repeated sin, thus falling short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
What is a secret to people is none to God, for God sees through human nature. If some of the Christians claim they have secret weapons to fight sin, I will say our weapons are not a secret one because we have to bear witness to the divine power of these weapons (Ephesians 6:10-18).
I do not have a secret to hold, except the duty-bound one or that is governed by the law. But, I muzzle my mouth with a bridle so that I cannot sin by my tongue, saying what I should not say. I hold the sword of the Holy Spirit in my hand so that the word of God can be heard and seen. I pray in the Holy Spirit for all believers and faith seekers so that they can really see God. I hold my heart close to my conscience so that I can always hear the voice of God and gain the power to fight the Christian’s fight.

Ephesians 6:11-18
“Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord’s people.”
