What makes you laugh?
When a shepherd finds his lost sheep; when a poor widow finds her lost coin; or when a father’s prodigal son returns home (Luke 15)—they all rejoice and laugh.
What are, then, the things which make me laugh? There is breathy laughter from a funny line in a comedy to the defeat of the wicked, and from a laughing baby to a mischievous puppy. The laughter that truly lingers in the heart is a reflection of joy in the Holy Spirit. A delinquent juvenile goes back on the righteous path; a hopeless patient turns to the Light; and a broken family is united in Christ, all of which are putting me in the everlasting joy in the Holy Spirit.
Not only does the church rejoice, but also the angels of God in heaven rejoice over the repentance of sinners. In a new heaven and a new earth where God will wipe away every tear, ending death, mourning, crying and pain, those in Christ can really rejoice and laugh (Revelation 21:4).
