If you could have something named after you, what would it be?
The apostle Paul said: “To the Jews I became like a Jew, to win the Jews. To those under the law I became like one under the law (though I myself am not under the law), so as to win those under the law. To those not having the law I became like one not having the law (though I am not free from God’s law but am under Christ’s law), so as to win those not having the law. To the weak I became weak, to win the weak. I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some” (1 Corinthians 9:20-22).
Paul teaches us the principle of being flexible and culturally sensitive in evangelism, adapting to the audience’s background to gain a hearing for the gospel. To preach the gospel, Christians proclaim that God is love (1 John 4:8); through good works, Christians bear witness to the world of the truth of the gospel.
If naming something after a Christian is done in good faith and regarded as part of a fruit-bearing ministry, then by the principle of Paul’s teaching, it is not a self-gratifying act. Rather, it is a testament to the truth that in Christ, the weak become strong and the humble rise to the glory of God.” Whatever we do, or do not do, must be for the glory of God!
I always apply my heart to what I see, for I want to learn a lesson from what I observe. May God lift our eyes to see what He sees in each of us, and to do what He wants each of us to do.
