Daily Prompt

Describe a decision you made in the past that helped you learn or grow.

All decisions impact life.  A good decision facilitates growth, whereas a bad one may cause a setback.  Doing nothing is also a decision itself, for waiting is better than moving in some situations.  The principle of “Taking no action is better than taking any action” is regarded as wise worldwide—yet some decisions require time to appreciate.

Decision is time‑sensitive.  A good decision, if made at an immature time, may turn into a bad one—and vice versa.  A decision to marry, a decision to have children, or a decision to let go of the past can contribute to a better life, but if carried out at the wrong time, the person may end up worse off.  So where do we find the wisdom to make a good decision at the right time?

I have faced many challenging decisions in the past, especially during my career—all of them had to be made correctly, for failing any one could have led to a severe setback. But the decision that truly matters to me is a life‑transforming one: receiving Jesus Christ as the Lord of my life and following Him.  All my learning and growth over the years has been in Him, for Him, and because of Him.

Christ is the perfect reflection and embodiment of God’s wisdom.  God grants wisdom to those who ask in faith (1 Corinthians 1:24, 30; James 1:5).  Hearing and acting on Christ’s words is like building a house on rock—the way of wisdom (Matthew 7:24).  Through time and experience, I have come to appreciate the truth of this: “Blessed are those who are free to make decisions for themselves or for others.”  Yet the greatest blessing of all is to be free from sinning.

There is a time to love and a time to hate; a time to pursue and a time to abandon; a time to watch and a time to sleep—all comes down to God’s wisdom.  In some situations, waiting is better than moving—but only when you are watching.  And so I keep watch—like the wise virgins, not the foolish.

“Watching” ✨

The virgin maids their lamps ignite,

And keep the door through many a waiting night.

One wakes—her oil has run too low;

In frantic haste she tries to buy.

She thinks the Bridegroom lingers slow—

But heaven’s plan defies the eye.

Then on the air a sweet wind blows:

My Christ the Lord comes, but no one knows the time.

The great door shuts; the feast is spread.

The maiden comes back—all is dead.

Too late, too late, she stands outside,

While joy and light within abide.

Proverbs 2:6

“For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding.”

Proverbs 13:14

“The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, turning a person from the snares of death.”
