Daily Prompt

Write about a time when you didn’t take action but wish you had. What would you do differently?

People often say, “I wish I had—” buying or selling property to increase wealth, or “I wish I hadn’t—” marrying him or marrying her.  Who has not said at least once, “I wish I had,” or “I wish I hadn’t”?

In the past, I occasionally dwelt on regretting something I didn’t do or something I shouldn’t have done.  One example: I was too rigid in my belief on “right and wrong” which led to conflict with someone I love dearly.  I knew I had hurt her, and I wish I had handled our differences wisely, leaving no scars in our relationship.  What would I do differently?  I would listen patiently, choose kindness over being right, and protect the bond we shared.

Today, I have learned not to waste time regretting the past; instead, I spend that time creating a new me.  Life is too short for whining.  Wasting time on whining only adds more regrets to what you have already had.  God cannot change history, and neither can anyone else.  Instead, I focus on renewing myself.  The Bible teaches us to forget what is behind and strain towards what is ahead (Philippians 3:13).  Regret is nothing but a teacher of wisdom—it sheds light and increases strength to live for today and tomorrow, preventing history from repeating itself.

A great strength in people is to forgive others, but the greatest strength of all is to stop quarreling with yourself.  If you ever find yourself regretting, stop regretting in time.  Turn negative energy into positive action to improve your life.  Think before you leap, and learn before you act.

The apostle Paul pressed on towards the goal to win the prize for which God had called him heavenward in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14).  He is the model of winning the crown of eternal life, the crown of eternal glory.  The power of life is to live your life so that tomorrow you will not regret today.  As for Christians, when they see the Lord Jesus Christ face to face, they will not regret how they have lived.

If I say the word “wish” again, I shall say it as a blessing rather than a regret.  All my wishes are laid with the Lord Jesus Christ.  Following Jesus’ footsteps leads to glory, not regret.

May my poem below help instill positivity in your life 👇🏻

“Let Go or Not” ~ ✨

The burden of your past makes you short of breath

The burden of your past and present leaves you out of breath

People must live for the present

The present is today

Tomorrow is also the present of today

The passage of life should turn the foolish into the wise

And the wise into the wiser

The abundance of the wise can turn the burden of your past

into the lightness of today
