Daily Prompt

Are you a leader or a follower?

Almost everyone plays both roles.  In both professional and personal life, nearly all leaders must report to higher authorities or rely on the expertise of others.

Professionally, for instance, the president of a nation has to follow the wishes of their voters; a CEO or a president must answer to a board of directors and shareholders; and a team supervisor has supervisors above them.

In personal life, every individual ultimately leads themselves by managing their own time, personal goals, and daily decisions.

A strong, adaptable leader—both professionally and personally—often requires the humility to listen, follow, and learn from others.

In my career, I led my subordinates and was a subordinate to my boss.  I was pleased with a compliment from my boss at work: “Your true Boss is God.”

As witnessed by others, my heart leads me to God, follows the Lord Jesus Christ, and listens to the Holy Spirit.  Yet I am the leader of my own actions: if I fail, I can’t blame God, but if I succeed, I give honour to my Boss.  As I engage in a heart-to-heart relationship with God and work faithfully for Christ, it is the Father who allows the fruit to grow on branches of the good tree (John 15:1-2).

It doesn’t matter if you are a leader or a follower—what matters is that you live with a pure and honest heart to love and serve others.

As for me, I praise the Lord with my soul and all my inmost being, and I do not forget all His benefits.
