What’s the oldest things you’re wearing today?
This could be a painful question for some people, for it might bring back memories of suffering, loss, or burden. Yet for me, it brings back the memory of love and grace bestowed on me by God.
The oldest thing in my life can be measured by time, but for me, it means both time and relationship.
My body is the oldest thing I am wearing today, carrying my given name with it. The older I get, the more I appreciate how my body treats me. Though my body degenerates with time, my spirit is renewed day by day in Christ—and I am wearing the full armour of God (Ephesians 6:11–18). One day, my body will pass away, and so will my name. I hope my life honours my parents and glorifies God.
My body reflects who I am—shining a light or darkening the sky in this transient world. If I am able to shine in the darkness, I must first establish a good relationship with myself and with God.
What is your relationship with yourself?
The following scripture may shed light on your pursuit:
Ephesians 6:11–18 (excerpt)
Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world. Stand firm then, with the belt of truth, the breastplate of righteousness, and your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. Take up the shield of faith, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit—the word of God. Pray in the Spirit on all occasions.
