Have you ever broken a bone?
Bones form the framework of the human body. Without them, you can’t stand, walk, or move—nor can vital organs such as the brain, heart, and lungs be protected from external forces. A straight backbone in the body helps you stand up straight; a straight backbone in character helps you stand upright in the world.
“Not bending your back for a small paycheck” is a famous Chinese proverb. It has been the motto of my life: a person without integrity cannot stand. And as a Christian, integrity is all that matters.
Never compromising your moral integrity is easier said than done, for it can cost you dearly—in your career or your personal well-being. Take me, for example. I chose not to bow to a boss who fell short of high moral and professional standards, even though it caused me a career setback. Yet I have no regrets. I sleep well at night.
Bones in the body can be broken, but your mettle cannot. That said, I am happy to have my bones, joints, and marrow penetrated by the word of God—for it is alive and active (Hebrews 4:12).
So, to answer the question directly: No, I have never broken a bone. I have had several accidental falls, but my bones remained intact. And my mettle has been tested but not broken either—for the word of God has been guarding me.
