Daily Prompt

Do you have any collections?

Who doesn’t?  Born into this world, we collect—piling up riches everywhere, yet rarely storing kind deeds.

Some collect their own memories, while others collect books—the memories of others.  Resentment and old grudges are also collectible, a favourite of many who choose to live in misery from age to age.

I collected, too, from childhood—stamps, coins, and old banknotes for memory’s sake.  In my adulthood, I purchased pearls, jade, and gold, drawn to their natural beauty, and wore them on special occasions.  But I have given most away, keeping only a few with deep sentimental meaning.

Today, I collect nothing but wisdom—the word of God, more valuable than any treasure from sea or earth.  I receive wisdom and love from God the Father and pass on His treasures to those in need.  He teaches me to store grain for others to ease their hungry years, and to keep cotton when the cold draws near.  God blesses those who seek Him—to be fed and clothed is the Father’s pleasure, same as in ancient times He let manna fall from heaven to feed every mouth (Exodus 16:4-5).

Nonetheless, God also stores: young Joseph, captive in Egypt’s land, was stored to save the sons of Israel when famine ran deep and darkness fell.  Young Moses, saved from death’s cold wave, was stored to lead His people out of the house of slavery.  God does these things to give lasting peace to all mankind.  On the other hand, God stores up His anger towards the unrepentant, for He does not want any to perish (2 Peter 3:9).

“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21).  So I collect treasures not in dust, where moth and rot consume what is just—I store them in heaven’s barn.

May the scripture quoted bring you the blessing of heavenly grain.

✨ Matthew 6:19-21 ✨

[19] “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

[20] But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.

[21] For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
