Daily Prompt

What personal belongings do you hold most dear?

In this one-person, one-smartphone culture, many people would likely say that a smartphone is most dear to them.

Naked I came from my mother’s womb, and naked I will depart.  In this transient time, I live under the love and grace of God.  People want good health—I have both physical and psychological wellness.  Many own wealth—I own some too.  And there are those who live with various kinds of religions—I have full faith in the one and only Son of God, Jesus Christ, who has made God known to the world (John 1:18).

I am now in my mature years, having observed what is good: that it is appropriate for people to eat, to drink, and to find satisfaction in their toilsome labour under the sun (Ecclesiastes 5:18).  God gives, and God takes away (Job 1:21).  Those who seek God will be loved and protected from temptation and the wicked.

Of all my belongings, my faith in the Lord Jesus Christ is of utmost importance.  Though faith is not a possession in the earthly sense, of all that I hold, it is the one I hold most dearly.  I cannot bring any of my possessions into the grave, but my faith will take me into eternity, where I will meet the Lord who is the closest to my heart.

I believe in the Lord’s promise: “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1).  With this promise in mind, what other personal belongings could I still hold dearly on earth?
