Daily Prompt

Who would you like to talk to soon?

There is a famous Chinese proverb: “If you drink with a bosom friend, a thousand cups are too few; if you talk to someone who is not on the same page, even half a sentence is too much.”  In other words, you only really want to talk to someone who is on the same wavelength as you.

Regardless of whether you are on the same page or not, people like to talk to their loved ones—lovers, family members, or friends.  Talking to someone you love or like is such a wonderful thing, and it is never too much or too soon to do it.

Before social media platforms were invented, families talked to each other at the dining table and enjoyed sharing stories about their daily lives.  Today, under the “one person, one smartphone” culture, families hardly talk while eating together—instead, they talk to their smartphones: taking selfies, photographing food on the table, or chatting online with others.

As for me, I am not fond of talking unless it is necessary.  As a Christian, I feel compelled to talk to anyone who crosses my path and does not yet know about Jesus Christ—sooner rather than later.  And for those who need my advice or guidance, I will talk to them whenever they need my help.

Though I am not talkative, I can’t wait to talk to God soon after waking up.  I also talk to myself during daily meditation or in personal reflection after a workday, so that I can correct my wrongs and affirm what I did right as soon as possible.

Today, I would rather use my pen than my tongue to talk.  I put my thoughts and words about the gospel into writing and share them with others through the internet.  This is a much quicker and more direct way of reaching a wider audience across the globe, compared to a bilateral, time-restricted conversation.

Nevertheless, I look forward to talking with the Lord Jesus Christ face to face in the new heaven and the new earth, where I long to be reunited with my kin, members of the body of Christ, and all the saints.  Together we will talk and count the blessings of our God.

On earth, “God is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth” (Psalm 145:18).  With this promise, I call to God, and He will answer me and tell me great and unsearchable things I do not know.  The saying “the less said, the better” does not apply to talking with God—with Him, a thousand cups are too few.
