Daily Prompt

What does “having it all” mean to you? Is it attainable?

“Having it all” is subject to everyone’s own interpretation.  While some find contentment in happiness, others have an appetite like a snake trying to swallow an elephant—wanting more than they can ever hold.

Many romantic songs and movies proclaim that love is everything.  Salty fish and plain cabbage may fill the lovers’ stomachs, and true love may far outweigh a thousand treasures.

But not every desire is attainable, and not everyone finds true love, for life is not all roses.  Things do not always go the way you want, and the secret of happiness lies in contentment.

I too have desires, but I never set unattainable goals.  When I have a goal, I turn it into a tangible plan, work the plan, and achieve the goal.  I know the size of my head, so I only wear a hat that fits—setting the right targets within reasonable time and limits, without forsaking work-life balance.  The beautiful closure of my career bears witness to this truth, and I thank God for His grace bestowed on me.  My journey to serve and bear fruit continues through my volunteer work.

I believe that greed has no bounds, and materialism runs rampant.  Unrealistic expectations only sow distress.  So I look up to God, not down in despair, in grateful mindfulness.  You may have it all if you view personal achievements in quality rather than quantity.  Only by doing so can life be truly meaningful, fruitful, and happy.

I have lived for more than half a century, experiencing the truth that a quality life is characterised by peace with God, faithfulness to the Lord Jesus Christ, lovingkindness towards others, and eternal reward (Revelation 3:5).  Decade by decade, life flies by—but the journey of my earthly life has not been in vain.  Indeed, living a life like mine, I really have it all: my name on the Book of Life.

What about you?
