Daily Prompt

Do you remember your favorite book from childhood?

This question seems easy to answer, but it’s not that simple. Children read all sorts of things—cartoons, sci-fi, or other kinds of fictional stories. I remember that my niece, in her toddler days, loved reading books about animals. Then, before becoming a teenager, she followed every new edition of Harry Potter closely. That’s an example of how children’s favourites change through childhood — and so do adults’ favourites through adulthood. Take me, for example.

In my childhood, I read novels and other books, but none were my favourite except the Bible—a collection of 66 books penned by dozens of prophets and apostles. The two books I carried with me were a miniature Bible and a pocket-sized English dictionary so that I could read them whenever I needed guidance and strength.

Today, the Bible is still my favourite book to read and meditate on every day, but I seldom read other books unless they are pleasing to God, for God’s pleasure is my pleasure.

Not only do I read, but I also write for others to read. I enjoy sharing. In sharing, I see this: sharing knowledge makes knowledge grow further; sharing love makes the world shine brighter; and sharing the gospel—the sacrificial love of Jesus Christ demonstrated to the world (John 3:16)—leads human life beyond the temporal world.

We all have books of knowledge to share and tons of love to show. May the gifted share whatever gifts they have, not for reward but for love. If they do this, the heavens will sing, the earth will be restored to a joyous place to live, and they will be blessed even more.
