Daily Prompt

What’s the oldest thing you own that you still use daily?

The Bible—the living Word of God, the word of life.

Written by dozens of authors across roughly 1,500 years, it’s the oldest collection of books I own that I still use every single day. The Bible doesn’t change, but I grow as I journey through life with its ongoing guidance and support. It sustains my communion with the triune God, and through that communion, I am renewed in Christ day by day.

Sadly, many believers I know no longer read the Bible daily—or even at all. At some point, they began relying on the flesh instead of the Holy Spirit. As the Lord Jesus said, “Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants, so that they did not bear grain” (Mark 4:7).

The Lord also said that He is the bread of life and the living water: whoever comes to Him will never hunger, and whoever believes in Him will never thirst again (John 4:14; 6:35). This precious food comes from the Scriptures. I can’t live abundantly without this food, nor have I ever seen a believer who lacks communion with God truly live well.

So may you find the Bible—the ancient book still read and trusted by millions today. May you live abundantly on the word of life.
