Daily Prompt

If you could instantly master any skill, what would it be and why?

If I could instantly master any skill, it would be to read, speak, and write Hebrew—the language of the father of nations, and the language of the chosen people.

As a Jewish man, while Jesus likely spoke Aramaic daily, He read the Scriptures in Hebrew. The Gospels record Him entering the synagogue in Nazareth and reading aloud from the scroll of Isaiah—written in Hebrew (Luke 4:16-21). All the Old Testament scrolls were originally penned in this sacred language. If I mastered it well, I could read the original writings for myself, enabling me to grasp the deeper underlying meaning of the Scriptures.

Another reason I long to learn Hebrew is to better see and understand the land where Jesus was born and raised. In Galilee and Jerusalem, Jesus spent three years preaching the kingdom of God and calling people to repentance. I hope to have the chance to visit Israel again—not as a tourist, but as a disciple of Christ, seeking a deeper connection with the land. It is the birthplace of the Son of Man, the soil where the seed of the Gospel was sown and the harvest of salvation was reaped. If the Lord wills, I may meet brothers and sisters in Christ face-to-face and share my journey of faith with them in their native tongue.

Hebrew is the language of Abraham and his descendants—the ancient tongue used to communicate with God. I dream of speaking with God in Hebrew, that I might enjoy the fullest intimacy in communing with Him, and thereby know the fullest abundance of life in Him.

My journey of faith began with repentance. May my own reflection inspire you to seek Him as well. This longing finds its voice in a prayer of repentance:

✨ Repentance ✨

Before You, Lord, I sigh and sing,

Why turn Your ear from my voicing?

Then hear I—God delights not in rite,

But in a heart that’s true and right.

The contrite soul may draw so near,

The broken spirit finds Him here.

I begged each day with weary cry—

But days alone do not suffice.

The humbled spirit, crushed and still,

Is what Your mercy seeks to fill.

The fool in pride still walks astray;

The wise in meekness learns Your way.

O cleanse my soul, make white its stain,

Show me the path—turn grief to gain.

I cast aside vain rites for grace,

Reborn, I triumph in Your praise. ✨
