Morning Routine: A Fresh Beginning
Every daily prompt arrives afresh each morning—and today’s, on “morning routine,” speaks directly to WordPress bloggers.
The system-generated prompt brings to mind a beloved hymn by English author Eleanor Farjeon, written in 1931:
“Morning has broken like the first morning,
Blackbird has spoken like the first bird.
Praise for the singing! Praise for the morning!
Praise for them springing fresh from the word.”
That first morning sprang from the creation of the world (Genesis 1:1–5 & 13–19). It frames each day not as a continuation of the past, but as a brand-new act of creation—untouched, perfect.
Morning, then, is one of our most powerful universal symbols of fresh beginning. Consider the Chinese proverb: “The whole year’s work depends on a good start in spring; the whole day’s work depends on a good start in the morning.” It has benefited me for life.
Universally, morning offers renewal, hope, a clean slate. Sleep resets the body; sunrise resets the world. Yet for the permanent night-shift worker, morning marks the end of an old day—waking from sleep is their “morning.” For them, morning is not time-bound but biological.
Some ten years ago, I met an 80-year-old patient who looked scarcely 60. She rarely fell ill; this was her first hospital admission. Her secret? Two morning routines. Her first morning broke at five—an hour of exercise, a cup of coffee, a trip to the wet market. By nine, she slept again until noon—her second morning broke. This lifelong rhythm kept her physically fit. But sunrise chased away the dark hours without wiping out her inner pain. She had a crying heart—her only child, she felt, did not love her. I comforted her with Jesus’ promise and invited her to come to Him (Matthew 11:28–29).
As a retiree, I no longer keep the morning routine of my working years. The shift was not easy. Yet the Lord had a purposeful plan prepared for me—to guide me in what “beginning” meant without a schedule to frame it. Today my morning plan is inspired, not scheduled. My morning prayer and meditation are the fresh gifts from God each day—something I want, not something I owe. And through this daily prompt, I have spoken as a first disciple of the Lord Jesus Christ.
While morning remains, may the light guide you to Him. What follows is an invitation to every downcast heart to turn towards the light Maker.

“Unchanging Is Not Me”
The sun rises, the sun sets—
It is not the sun that sways.
Love and hate entwined—
It is not the conscience that sways.
When wrong is done—it’s someone else’s fault.
When right is done—it’s your own credit.
Your son doesn’t love you—is it because you’re never content?
You do well—is it not because he did enough?
Morning light bathes the earth,
Day after day, as on the very first day.
If one looks at oneself from within the self,
One sees only one’s own shadow.
The light shines upon the earth—
He who made the light illumines the human heart.
When self is laid down, when illusion is left behind—
In eternal light, there is no longer self.

Scripture sheds light on a new beginning—
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new is here!
—2 Corinthians 5:17
May the light Maker find you, and may your good beginning make a good ending.
