What’s a country that’s at the top of your bucket list?
A country at the top of my bucket list?
By race, China—my own country. By spirit, Israel—the symbol of God’s Promised Land.
Few people would name their own country first. As the saying goes, “The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.”
Years ago, China was not at the top of my travel list—simply because transportation was not developed enough to reach most scenic places. My first visit home was in the 1980s, to Guangzhou, for a private flying activity. Later came major cities: Shanghai, Beijing, Chongqing.
If I were to travel again today, I would revisit Israel—not for its scenery, but for the places marked by the footsteps of Jesus Christ. Nine years ago, I witnessed the Sea of Galilee, tasted home-grown figs and dates—that land of milk and honey—and enjoyed fellowship with local believers. That visit felt like home—for where Jesus is, there the heart remains.
